Gilt and Agate box, ca. 1840

In the early Victorian era, agate was a very popular material, for making boxes, other small objects, and as decorations. It had been previously popular during the Rococo/Marie Antoinette era, also for decoration. Pink or red agate, like what is used in this small box, was the most popular, as was the grayish-brown kind.

Russian silver-gilt and cloisonne enamel demitasse cup and saucer

Russian objects are some of my favorites. Their styles of enamelling are very distinctive. This is a "demitasse" cup and saucer, a term which is derived from the French word for "half-cup," and are traditionally used for serving coffee, primarily Arabic coffee and espresso.

I don't need to antique, I can quit anytime I want

AA is a program designed to cure your thirst for fine antiques. We can satisfy all of your needs (except physically placing the objects seen on this site in your home.)

Repeat after me: "I enjoy living in the present, I do not need to buy the Chippendale."

I'm Calliope and it has been 8 months, 4 days since I last bought a fine antique.

Just kidding.
